The iOS 8 doesn’t deal with .zip files by default. I mean it doesn’t brings any native tool to unzip files. In this post we will cover how to download an unzip files directly on iOS 8 iPhone, iPad and other devices using a Free tool (for files under 1MB) named iDownload.
As you may know Apple Store as a couple of free unzip tools. The main difference is that iDownload is totally integrated with Safari. I mean, when it detects URL to a .zip file if you tap or tap & hold it will open a popup do “Download” the file.
Are files are stored in the “Files” section in iDownload app. So after tapping “Download” go to:
- Launch iDownload app from Home Screen
- Tap “Files” in the bottom menu
- Tap the .zip file that was downloaded an a popup will appear with “Unzip” option
- Tap “Unzip” and all the files archived in the .zip file will be now unzipped
Files are now Unzipped
You can open files directly on iDownload
